Sam Wheeler

Sam was born and raised in Clemson, South Carolina. He moved to Charleston in 2000 to attend the College of Charleston, where he graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Marketing. He then obtained his Juris Doctor from the American University, Washington College of Law, in Washington, D.C.

Sam is licensed in both South Carolina and North Carolina, and he is admitted to practice in all state courts within those jurisdictions, as well as in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Sam represents contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, design professionals, material suppliers, developers, homeowners, insurance companies, and large and small businesses in a wide range of litigation, with a focus on construction litigation, property disputes, and business disputes. Prior to joining Whitfield-Cargile Law in 2021, Sam was a partner at Smith Closser & Wheeler in Charleston, South Carolina, focusing primarily on business law. Between his time graduating law school and starting his legal career in Charleston, Sam worked at the College of Charleston, writing speeches and virtually all external and internal communications for the President’s Office and the Board of Trustees.

At various points along the way to practicing law, he pulled stints as a caddie at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island and a bartender at Holy City Brewing.

In his free time, Sam is a husband to Caroline Wheeler and a father to two children, Cohen and Louise. He enjoys spending time outside and is an off-again-on-again runner.
